Cooperation between Landsvirkjun and RES, the School for Renewable Energy Science
The largest energy company in Iceland Landsvirkjun (the National Energy Company) and RES signed a two year cooperation agreement on the 10th of March 2009, focusing on renewable energy education and research.
The agreement is first for two year, with a possible extension for additional two years. With the agreement, Landsvirkjun seeks to support development of RES's new Hydropower Specialization in the M.Sc. Degree Programme, as well as provide a number of student scholarships for masters students in hydropower each year. This agreement provides RES with an opportunity to further broaden the scope of the masters programme, as well as strengthen research and education in hydropower development.
The agreement also involved a number of other joint activities, including faculty assignments at RES by experts from Landsvirkjun; student thesis projects in hydropower development with supervision coming from Landsvirkjun; and active participation by Landsvirkjun in RESnet, our network of renewable energy centres.
RES will offer the M.Sc. degree programme in the hydropower specialisation in February 2010.
