Landsvirkjun's Safety Control certified according to OHSAS 18001
The OHSAS 18001 standard is a statement of requirements in the field of safety and work environment control. Companies that operate according to the standard are required to continually work on improving their personnel's safety, health and well-being. The standard is, among other things, intended to ensure that safety and health care issues are integral factors in the evaluation and decision-making processes involved in investing, execution, management and the purchasing of products and services.
The OHSAS 18001 standard is a part of Landsvirkjun's integrated management structure. The standards ISO 9001 (a quality control standard) and ISO 14001 (an environment control standard) are also fundamental to this management structure.
The certification of the management structure confirms that sophisticated modus operandi are practiced within the company and that quality, environmental and safety issues are systematically and uniformly being worked on.
The ISO 9001 quality control standard was introduced in the year 2006, the environment control standard was certified in 2008, and now it has been confirmed that Landsvirkjun operates in accordance with the OHSAS 18001 standard.
The foundation of the integrated management structure has grown and intensified with each phase. The best indication of this is that only four new procedures had to be added when the requirements of ISO 14001 were introduced and only one new procedure with the introduction of OHSAS 18001. Other requirements made by these standards have been integrated into the existing management structure and procedures.
The company Vottun administered Landsvirkjun's appraisals and certification relating to the OHSAS 18001 standard. Landsvirkjun is the fourth company in Iceland to receive certification according to this standard.
