Landsvirkjun's operations unaffected by volcano eruption
Despite the devastating effect on air traffic in Europe the eruption in Eyjafjallajokull has very limited effect in Iceland and no impact on Landsvirkjun's operations.
Due to wind currents, the ash cloud is spreading south and east of Iceland, consequently reaching very limited part of the island. As the volcano in Eyjafjallajokull is situated near the south coast, only farms southeast of the glacier have suffered from heavy ash, but no animals have been reported dead.
Landsvirkjun´s facilities are intact and are not expected to be affected by volcanic activity. An impact assessment carried out indicates no or very limited risk for Landsvirkjun‘s facilities. This applies equally to the effects of ash clouds, floods and lava flows.
No ash has been seen in Reykjavik and all airports are still open.
