Tenders opened for the civil works component of the Búðarháls Hydroelectric Project BUD-01

Tenders will be opened at 14:00 hours today for the civil works component of the Búðarháls Hydroelectric Project BUD-01 at the Landsvirkjun premises at Háaleitisbraut 68, 103 Reykjavík.

The opening of the tenders is open to all, where all tenders received for the project will be read out along with cost estimate.

The project for which tenders were invited is the civil works at Búðarháls Hydroelectric Project which is divided into three LOTs:

  1. LOT-11, A rockfill dam in two parts totalling 1,300 metres in length and 25 metres high.
  2. LOT–14, Headrace Tunnel, totalling 4 km in length.
  3. LOT–15, Powerhouse, intake structure and tailwater canal.

The work is scheduled to be carried out in the years 2010 - 2013 and the hydroelectric project is to be operational by the end of 2013. It is estimated that the total number of man years of employment created by the building of the Búðarháls Hydroelectric Project will be 600 – 700 throughout the whole construction phase.  The number of employees on site will peak at about 300.

Tenders are invited in the European Economic Area, as is mandatory for a project of this size.

Subsequent to the opening of tenders, Landsvirkjun and is advisors will examine the tenders received. On completion of this process tender clarification discussions are conducted with the lowest bidder(s) about specific issues in the tenders and subsequently contract negotiations are commenced with the lowest bidder(s). It is estimated that about 10 weeks can pass from the opening of tenders until the final project agreement between Landsvirkjun and the contractor is ready. It is specified in the tender documents that tenders received are in force for 126 days from the opening of tenders.
