Landsvirkjun and Alcan Iceland Ltd. have signed a new energy contract for the aluminium smelter in Straumsvik. The agreement is subject to standard conditions precedent, including the approval of the respective boards of directors. These shall be fulfilled before 31 August 2010.

Hördur Arnarson, Managing Director of Landsvirkjun, discussed rising electricity prices in Europe at Arion Bank's breakfast meeting on energy issues. Mr Arnarson pointed out that it is possible to raise electricity prices in Iceland with a connection to the European market, e.g. by laying a submarine power cable.

Landsvirkjun, Orkuveita Reykjavíkur and the Ministry of Industry accepted the delivery of two 4-seater i MiEV electric cars from Mitsubishi today. The Ministry will have the use of one of the cars for the next two years. Orkuveita Reykjavíkur and Landsvirkjun will use the other car for a variety of research projects.
