Landsvirkjun joins 8000 other international corporations and institutions
Landsvirkjun has signed the UN Global Compact on social responsibility.
Landsvirkjun has committed to implementing the ten principles outlined by the UN in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. The UN Global Compact is the largest CSR initiative in the world with over 8000 members worldwide. Landsvirkjun’s membership is a subsequent step in the Company’s implementation of their Social Responsibility Policy which has been execution for the last few years.
Hordur Arnarson, CEO of Landsvirkjun made the following statement:
"Since its establishment, Landsvirkjun has placed a great emphasis on social responsibility. Signing the UN Global Compact is a step forward in this process and we hope that membership will support us in becoming more transparent and focussed in all our endeavours.”
By signing the Global Compact, Landsvirkjun has committed to submitting a yearly summary on progress and effectiveness within the area of social responsibility.
Ragna Sara Jónsdóttir, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at Landsvirkjun made the following statement:
“The summary will enable Landsvirkjun’s stakeholders to keep up with developments, to influence key areas outlined by the Company and to observe the progress achieved within the area of social responsibility.”
Landsvirkjun outlined its policy on Social Responsibility in the autumn of 2011 and has been actively working on the implementation and execution of the policy within the Company. The policy outlines Landsvirkjun’s commitment to practising responsible corporate governance, working with responsible clients and suppliers, placing an emphasis on the sustainable utilisation of natural resources, successful cooperation with society, promoting the health and safety of employees and working on knowledge sharing and innovation.
