The construction of Theistareykir Geothermal Power Station which started in early 2015 is progressing according to plan. We are happy to announce that major milestones have been reached in the previous months. The power house, the steam supply systems and the road works have all been completed and the first 45 MW phase is on course to be completed in the fall of 2017. Another 45 MW phase is on course to come online in 2018.
The renewable electricity generated at Theistareykir is competitive for diverse power intensive applications, including metal and silicon production. Direct use of the various resource streams generated by the geothermal production process, including carbon dioxide, thermal energy, steam and others are also attractive for companies seeking to manage costs and minimize their environmental footprint.
In an effort to keep local residents and other stakeholders informed about developments, Landsvirkjun has published a first newsletter on the project at Theistareykir and its progress.
