Record number of people visiting Landsvirkjun this summer

11. August 2014

We are pleased to announce a record number of guests in our visiting centers this summer. 9.500 people have paid us a visit so far. Our visiting centers will be open all of August.

Renewable energy is proving popular with tourists which account for half of all visits, native Icelanders account for the other half.

New wind turbines are proving popular

This year, guests were welcome to visit our two new wind turbines, located at Hafid by the Burfell Hydropower Station, every Saturday in July. Over 1000 people visited the wind turbines. Guests were invited to participate in an Instagram competition at the windmill site with the hashtag #myndmylla.

Open in August

We are open  every day until the 30thof August from 10 – 17 and welcome all visitors to use the opportunity to learn more about renewable energy. Our visitor centres are located at Burfell Hydropower Station, Krafla Geothermal Power Station and Fljotsdalur Hydropower Station. More details  can be found on our website.

We look forward to seeing you!
