This summer Landsvirkjun has been doing preparation work for the possible construction of the Þeistareykir geothermal power plant. The work is a part of the development of geothermal power generation in Northeast Iceland.
Over the last two summers Landsvirkjun has worked on the construction of the North Þeistareykir road, which runs from Höfuðreiðarmúli to the planned power plant area at Þeistareykir. Parallel to the road construction Landsvirkjun has worked on laying electricity to the plant area. The work will be concluded this summer.
Invitations have also been sent out to bid on the improvement and restoration of Reykjahlíðarvegur, from Húsavík to Höfuðreiðarmúli. The project was made available for bidding in two parts and agreements with contractors have already been made. Ístrukkur ehf. and Jón Ingi Hinriksson ehf. will take on the first section. The contractors working on the second section are Höfðavélar ehf. The project is to be completed on October 31st 2013.
