Electricity Sales
According to Landsvirkjun's Annual Report operating income derived from electricity sales amounted to USD 388,368 thousands in 2008, accounting for 85.9% of the total operating income, USD 452,027 thousands.
Revenues increased substantially in 2007, when electricity sales started to the aluminium smelter of Fjarðaál, the Alcoa subsidiary in Reyðarfjörður. The aluminium plant maintained full operation in 2008. 2007 was the first year in which the estimated revenue from electricity sales to power intensive customers exceeded that from sales to public utilities.
