Landsvirkjun and Alcan in Iceland signed an agreement on the sale of energy to the aluminium smelter at Straumsvík on 15 June 2010. A revised agreement was made on the one hand on the price of existing energy sales to the aluminium smelter and on the other hand on the delivery of additional energy, 658 GW hours for the estimated increased production of the smelter. It was planned that this additional energy would, partly come from the new Búðarháls Power Station.
Conventional reservations were made with the agreement, for example the endorsement of the boards of both companies. All the reservations of the agreement were met in September 2010 and the agreement came into force on 1 October 2010.
