Búðarháls Power Station will be operated in conjunction with other Landsvirkjun power stations in the Þjórsá- Tungnaá area. Energy from Búðarháls Power Station will be sent from the station to the Landsnet switching station at the front of Búðarháls Power Station and from there by high tension line directly across Búðarháls mountain to the Hrauneyjar line.

Delivery of energy from Búðarháls Power Station is planned for the end of 2013 and the estimated power from the power station will be about 95 MW and its energy capacity up to 585 GW hours per annum. Agreements have been signed with Alcan in Iceland for the delivery of additional energy, 658 GW hours, for the aluminium smelter in Straumsvík which will come from, among other places, Búðarháls Power Station.
