Energy production from renewable sources

Burfell Power Station – Interactive Energy Exhibition

Búrfellsstöð í Þjórsárdal

In all the corners of the world demand for renewable energy continues to rise. The exhibition at Burfell Power Station focuses on both the opportunities and limitations these types of energy sources present. The exhibition will also provide a history of how these techniques have been used in Iceland over time.

The exhibition offers visitors an insight into renewable energy production and how it is used. We also look into the future and at the possibility of harnessing power from Geothermal, Wind and Sea sources. Our aim is to educate and entertain our guests, and to share knowledge about different energy sources and their effects on the community, economy and environment.

Burfell Power Station is open every day 10.00-18.00 from 12th of June until 31st of August. After September 1st the exhibition is open by appointment only. Please call us at +354 515 9000 to arrange your visit.

Krafla Power Station

Kröflustöð

Krafla Power Station is the largest geothermal energy station run by Landsvirkjun and is s an interesting destination for travelers. Visitors get the opportunity to learn about electricity production from geothermal energy sources as well as the unique history of the stations development. During the construction of the station, major volcanic eruptions started only 2 kilometers away and posed a serious threat to its existence. Energy harnessing and volcanic eruptions therefore coexisted simultaneously.

In the vicinity to Krafla Power Station there is an abundance of interesting walks which you can get information about in our visitor center.
