Landsvirkjun’s Board is appointed by the Minister of Finance, at the company’s Annual General Meeting, held before the end of April each year. The Board is responsible for Landsvirkjun’s finances and operations. The CEO of Landsvirkjun is Hörður Arnarson, who in collaboration with the Board is responsible for the day to day administration of the company.
Landsvirkjun’s Board of Directors sets out its procedural regulations in accordance with the provisions of Article 7 of the Act on Landsvirkjun. The current Board of Directors were appointed at the company’s Annual General Meeting April 10th 2018.
Jónas Þór Guðmundsson is the Chairman of the Board at Landsvirkjun since 2014.
He has worked as an attorney since 1999 and is currently a Supreme Court Attorney. Prior to this, he worked as a legal expert at the Ministry of Justice from 1998 to 1999 and as the Director of Education at the Faculty of Law, at the University of Iceland, from 1995 to 1997. He received his law degree from the University of Iceland in 1995.
In addition to general legal practice, Jónas was a lecturer in law at the University of Iceland from 1995 to 2005 and later on at the Reykjavík University from 2005 to 2012. Jónas has been the Chairman of the Chief Management of Elections for the South-West electoral district of Iceland since 2007. In 2011, Jónas was appointed by the Icelandic Parliament (Alþingi) sit as a judge in the High Court of Impeachment. He has served as a member of the Senior Civil Servants Salary Board since 2006 and as its Chairman since 2014.
Jónas was a board member of the Icelandic Bar Association from 2010-2015 and chairman of the association from 2012-2015.
