Landsvirkjun has supported Icelandic Opera undertakings for many years. Bjarni Daníelsson, General Director of the Opera, and Þorsteinn Hilmarsson, Head of Corporate Communications at Landsvirkjun, have signed a cooperation agreement providing for Landsvirkjun to underwrite the production of The Rake's Progress by Stravinsky, to premiere in February 2007.
The Rake's Progress is the main production of the Icelandic Opera's spring 2007 season. The director is Halldór E. Laxness and the orchestra director is Kurt Kopecky. The soloists for the production are Jóhann Smári Sævarsson, Gunnar Guðbjörnsson, Hulda Björk Garðarsdóttir, Ágúst Ólafsson, Sigríður Aðalsteinsdóttir, Ingveldur Ýr Jónsdóttir and Snorri Wium. Halldór E. Laxness also directed the Opera's production of Tökin hert (The Turn of the Screw) in the autumn of 2005; that production received the 2005 Icelandic Music Award in the category of classical and contemporary music.
