Domestic electricity cheapest in Iceland

December 11, 2008
The price is based on electricity prices on 14 November 2008 and a contract for one year. The exchange rate of the Icelandic króna is also based on that date. However, due to the bank crisis in Iceland and exchange rate fluctuations, the rate as on 1 July is included for comparison.
The results show that prior to the crisis, domestic electricity was cheapest in Helsinki with Reykjavík a close second, then Oslo and Stockholm. The most expensive rate was in Copenhagen. Following the exchange rate collapse, however, Reykjavík has the cheapest household electricity rate, followed by Helsinki, Oslo and Stockholm, while Copenhagen remains the most expensive.
