Danish Meteorological Institute selects Iceland as location for new Cray supercomputer

August 21, 2015

The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) announced last year that its next high performance computing (HPC) facility will be located in Iceland and will be installed in late 2015.

It has now been announced that DMI has made a $6 million contract with Cray Inc. to provide a supercomputer and storage system for DMI’s HPC facility in Iceland.

The country’s carbon neutral power production and year-round free air cooling were among the deciding factors for DMI to locate the supercomputer in Iceland.
