Dr Gunnar Guðni Tómasson has been appointed as Executive Vice President of the Project Planning and Construction Division.
The role of the Project Planning and Construction Division is to develop hydropower, geothermal and wind power stations in Iceland. Landsvirkjun Power, a subsidiary of Landsvirkjun and the division responsible for international projects, will be under the auspices of the Executive Vice President of the Project Planning and Construction Division.
Dr Tómasson was the Dean of the School of Science and Engineering at Reykjavik University for four years and went on to become the CEO of HRV ehf, where he has been for the last three years. After graduating in 1991, he worked on a number of diverse projects within engineering and management at Vatnaskil and VST consulting engineers and was also an Associate Professor at the University of Iceland for several years.
Dr Tómasson completed his C.S degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Iceland. He completed his master’s degree in Civil Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA and went on to complete his doctoral studies in 1991 at the same university. He is married to Sigríður Hulda Njálsdóttir, a nurse at the National University Hospital of Iceland and together they have three children.
