Bjarni elected as President of IGA
The International Geothermal Association has announced that Dr Bjarni Pálsson, EVP of Wind & Geothermal Division at Landsvirkjun, has been elected President of IGA by the newly constituted Board at its first meeting on 22 September 2026.
Bjarni first joined the IGA board in 2010 until 2016, and again in 2023.

Bjarni joined Landsvirkjun in the summer of 1995 as a summer intern, but has been full time with Landsvirkjun since 2002 when he returned as a newly graduated petroleum engineer.
Bjarni has managed a number of geothermal and deep drilling projects with Landsvirkjun over the years and in 2024 he took over as an Executive Vice President of a new division within Landsvirkjun; Wind and Geothermal, operating three geothermal power stations and one wind park, in total 275 MW and several hundred MW projects in the pipeline.
