Safety and Environmental Training

Landsvirkjun’s safety and environmental training is an online basic induction that contractor personnel must complete before starting work at Landsvirkjun worksites.

Active and Robust Safety Culture

The purpose of the safety and environmental training is to support a strong and active safety culture among contractor personnel working in operations and projects at Landsvirkjun worksites.

The training promotes a shared understanding of Landsvirkjun’s requirements, priorities and expectations in safety and environmental matters. It raises awareness of risk factors and strengthens preventive measures in day-to-day work.

Questions and Answers

  • The training consists of two parts:

    1. HSE SSG Basic Training (approx. 2 hours)
Basic training delivered in cooperation with SSG (Standard Solution Group) and its Icelandic representative, HSE Consulting. The course is called “SSG Iceland Safety Course”. It is a general safety and environmental course shared by Icelandic companies that use SSG training.
    2. Landsvirkjun-specific HSE course (approx. 1 hour)
A site- and company-specific course developed with reference to Landsvirkjun’s operations at power stations and construction sites.
  • The courses are valid for three years. After that period, personnel must retake the courses to renew their authorisation to work.

    • The SSG Basic Course, SSG Iceland Safety Course, is available in eight languages.
    • The Landsvirkjun-specific HSE course is available in Icelandic and English.
    • The fee for the SSG Iceland Safety Course is available from HSE Consulting.
    • There is no participation fee for the Landsvirkjun-specific HSE course.
  • If personnel have completed comparable HSE basic training within the previous three years, the contractor may request that the course be assessed as equivalent to the SSG Iceland Safety Course.

The request must include sufficient information on the course content and quality so that Landsvirkjun can make a professional assessment of its validity.

  • No. The online HSE training is basic training and does not replace job-specific training for individual tasks, equipment or roles.

The contractor is always responsible for ensuring that its personnel and subcontractors have all required licences, competence and relevant job-specific HSE training before work begins.
