First Transport Went Smoothly

More about the Transport

There was considerable anticipation in the air last night as the transport of the first wind turbine components for the Vaðalda Wind Farm began. The convoy departed from Þorlákshöfn shortly after midnight and arrived at its destination before 5 a.m. this morning. Everything went smoothly, traffic flowed well, and all went according to plan.

Due to their size, transporting the wind turbine components is a highly challenging task, and extensive preparation has taken place over the last weeks and months. The first shipment included two blades, a tower section, central section of the nacelle, two side sections of the nacelle, and two containers carrying auxiliary equipment.

Everyone involved expressed their satisfaction with the execution of the first transport operation. The transports were carefully planned and carried out in close cooperation with the police, the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration, transport contractors, and other parties involved in the project. Police managed traffic and escorted the convoy with great professionalism. Preparations by the Road and Coastal Administration also proved highly effective, both regarding the transport route itself and the measures required before operations could begin.

“We are very pleased with how this first transport operation went. This is an important milestone for the Vaðalda Wind Farm project, and it is gratifying to see how well all parties worked together. The transports proceeded according to plan, traffic moved smoothly, and safety remained the top priority throughout,” says Sigurgeir Björn Geirsson, Senior Project Manager for the Vaðalda Wind Farm.

Unloading of the first components took place at the Vaðalda site this morning, and preparations for the next transport are already underway. The next convoy will depart tonight, followed by transports six nights a week over the next 7–9 weeks.
